I’m not shaving a single thing or trimming my nails. Everything about society is topsy turvy, so the way I see it, there was a memo missed and it’s time for me to pull a Howard Hughes and completely disregard the tenets of common sense. EVERYONE ELSE SEEMS TO BE DOIN’ IT.
Let me tell you something honestly. I love Dunkin’ Donuts. DD is there for me when I’m stuck in some random neighborhood and need to rely on a tasty treat for less than $5, and less than 500 calories. (I’m looking at you, egg white flat-bread). DD is legit when I need an iced latte but only have $3 in my pocket and a dream. DD is my solution to caffeine, office snack-age and if I’m in the right one at the right time, ice cream. Chocolate and peanut butter STAT. Continue reading
When I was coming up teachers spoke about the civil rights movement and racism like a bad dream the country has since woken from. I was made to believe that racism didn’t exist and that the multitudinous races in the United States were happily coexisting. That’s suburban white guilt for you. It’s one year later and we have to ask ourselves: what are we doing differently? There have been loads of resources for repair and displacement— and even with that money people are STILL homeless. Are we going to be prepared if this happens again?
This month the University of Toronto released two studies examining why people have sex— especially those of us in LTR’s. The results? Not particularly surprising, which makes me wonder. Do we need studies to help us make decisions in our personal lives? Or should we just be more thoughtful?
New York has the holidays that it loves, and those are generally party holidays. But Halloween holds a special place in most people’s hearts because unlike all the others, it has costumes. This invites the weird, the wonderful, and for some, a reason to spend a lot of money on a sexy outfit that kinda has no business being sexy.
The Government Shut-down was a shoddy attempt at forcing President Obama to give up his signature health plan. The Republican backed temper-tantrum was not organized, had no end-game, and was lacking diplomatic finesse. Here are five things to take away from the shut-down. Continue reading
I know a lot of people who complain about having to tip their server at a restaurant. I even know people who stiff waiters and baristas on the regs, because they’re broke or just cheap. It’s unfortunate that customers are responsible for ensuring employees earn a livable wage. It’s even sadder that employers don’t pay their hard working employees an appropriate wage for their work. What is a decent wage? Well, anything that keeps you off of public assistance, I think. There’s no reason you should be working a regular work week and not be able to cover your expenses. But, that’s reality for a lot of people.
